About Speaker:
Ganesh V. Halade, Ph.D.
Dr. Ganesh V. Halade is an academician and a research scientist/pharmacologist with over 19 years of rich experience in pharmaceutical industry and cardiovascular sciences. Dr. Halade secured his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from North Maharashtra University, India (‘94), a BITian having completed his Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) majoring in Pharmacology from BIT Mesra (‘98) and Ph.D. from I.C.T., Mumbai (2007). He did two post-doctoral researches on obesity-mediated cardiac remodeling post-myocardial infarction and mechanistic aspects of dietary supplements in obesity, lupus, and bone remodeling at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas U.S.A. (2007-2013). He has several accolades to his name in the field of cardiovascular sciences with a special focus on obesity, diabetes, nutrition-based drug discovery, health supplementation, human physiology, cardiac remodeling, and the pharmacology behind cardiac disorders, i.e. inflammation and resolution signaling mechanisms in heart failure. His scientific career encompasses Associate scientist at the Center for Exercise Medicine, Nutrition Obesity Research Center, and Comprehensive Cardiovascular Center (2013-14) at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, U.S.A.; Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Disease (2014-18); Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Disease; The University of Alabama at Birmingham, U.S.A. (2018-20). Associate Professor in Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of South Florida, Tampa, U.S.A. (2020-present). Before entering in academics research, he also worked as a Chemist in Regulatory Affairs, in Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company U.S.V. Limited, India (2000-01), Officer, International Regulatory Affairs, Cadila Healthcare Limited, Ahmedabad, India (2001), and Assistant Manager, Pre-clinical Department, Bharat Serums and Vaccines Limited, India (2005-06). He has numerous awards (Barbara H. Bowman Award, Pittman Scholar Award) honors, certifications, licensures, and training to his name in India and abroad and has authored/co-authored over 100 publications in journals of repute. He has been a part of various grant review committees, study sections, and guest lectures. He has and is working on various funded projects in conjunction with cardiology (10 completed and 02 ongoing) and guiding undergraduate trainees, graduate Ph.D. and M.D. trainees in his host institute. Being a part of various scientific societies (including American Heart Association) and professional associations, he has chaired various scientific and professional activities. He is a reviewer, associate editor, and member of the editorial board of various journals of repute (The American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, European Journal of Pharmacology, Journal of Cardiology and Therapy, Scientific Reports, etc.). Dr. Halade is currently working on inflammation-resolution signaling in heart failure at USF, Tampa, Florida, U.S.A.
Abstract of Talk:
Interaction of Fat and Leukocyte after Heart Attack
Physiological short-term inflammation is primary signal of the immune system activation that indicates defense system of the body, if remain activated for long term in presence or absence of injury lead to pathological response. In response to ischemic cardiac injury (heart attack) inflammation is widely studied however the resolution of inflammation (safe clearance of inflammation) is understudied. The outcome of inflammation blockade is less encouraging and sometime fatal to cardiac health. Thus, in the presented seminar, the resolution of inflammation and cardiac repair is highlighted with major focus on bioactive lipid mediators and confirmation of these molecules in patients following myocardial infarction. The most common risk factors such as obesity and aging are primary cause of the unresolved inflammation following myocardial infarction, thus key points will be covered. 1) What is role of leukocytes and fat in cardiac repair? What are the bioactive signature molecules of inflammation and resolution? How acute inflammation is dysregulated leading to unresolved inflammation in obesity and aging?
