Description

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality worldwide and hypertension is one of the major cause that is find to be in continuous relationship in precipitating disease. Hypertension is a chronic elevation of blood pressure, that causes serious damage to renal, cerebral, and vascular system. It has been estimated that around 1.28 billion people worldwide have been found to suffer from hypertension aged between 30-79 years. The AHA ( American Heart Asociation) hypertension treatment guidelines are evidence based and comprehensive, covering virtually all aspects of hypertension including diagnosis, patient evaluation and monitoring, secondary causes as well as drug and non-drug treatments. It recommends 7 strategies for accurate attainment of Blood Pressure .Conventional oral administration usually results in erratic drug concentrations in plasma because of AT (Atenolol) hydrophilicity, leading to reduction in the pharmacological effect or development of undesirable side effects. To avoid these problems alternative noninvasive routes have been proposed particularly , buccal patches and transdermal delivery systems formulated as proniosomal gels or films containing AT have been developed. Furthermore effective emerging technologies are on way to be implemented in the gaps of available treatment so as to provide safe and effective therapies. Correct adhesion to the skin may be challenging, and transdermal systems are sometimes rejected by the patients due to esthetic aspects or discomfort. The inhalatory administration is considered one of the main alternative noninvasive drug delivery routes and it is particularly interesting for cardiac targeting. In this review apart from conventional drugs various newer approaches have been mentioned in order to deal with the treatment strategy of hypertension.
