Description
BACKGROUND & AIMS: Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Diabetes Mellitus are usually coexists and synergistically increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Aim of the presented work to understand mechanism involve in progression of this coexistence and provide an insight towards treatment strategies and clinical implications.
METHODS: Literature was collected from PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science and Google scholar from inception to June, 2022. For surveying literature keywords were used in different combinations and formats.
RESULTS: In the past decade, many epidemiological studies have been documented and provide clinical evidences that Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is closely linked with Cardiovascular Disease progression and associated morbidity and mortality in both patients with or without Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The principle behind the management of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and cardiovascular complication involves an indirect effect through improvement in insulin resistance and hyperglycemia.
CONCLUSION: As a result of the link between Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and progressive Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, careful surveillance of cardiovascular diseases in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus will be needed. Therapeutic strategies remain still unclear due to lack of effectiveness, but lifestyle modifications determine an improvement.
